" Test of English for International Communication " 미국 교육 평가원(ETS:Educational Testing Service)이 영어를 모국어로 사용하지 않는 사람들을 대상으로 일상생활과 비즈니스 현장에서 필요한 영어능력을 측정하는 실용영어평가 시험입니다.

소개

영어의 4대 기능인 (말하기, 듣기, 읽기, 쓰기)의 종합적인 구사능력을 측정, 개인이 국제 무대에 나아가 영어를 사용하여 어느 정도로 유창한 의사소통을 할 수 있는가를 알아보기 위해 개발된 시험으로 타 영어 시험들은 수험자가 학교에서 배운 문법, 어휘, 독해 등에 관한 지식을 측정하 는데 반해, TOEIC은 커뮤니케이션 수단으로서의 영어의 기능, 실용성을 측정 목표로 하고 있습니다. 2006년 5월부터는 현실적인 커뮤니케이션에 가까운 형태의 ‘New TOEIC’을 시행 중.

특징

• - 어휘, 문법, 관용어 중에서 미국 영어에만 쓰이는 특정한 것은 피한다.
• - 특정 문화에만 해당되거나 일부 문화권의 응시자에게 생소할 수 있는 상황은 피한다.
• - 여러 나라 사람의 이름을 고르게 등장시킨다.
• - 특정 직업 분야에만 해당되는 상황은 피한다.
• - 다양한 문화와 성에 대한 편견이 없도록 유의한다.
• - 듣기 평가에서는 다양한 국가(주로 미국, 영국, 캐나다, 호주)의 발음 및 악센트가 출제된다.
